Respect ... What other feeling can you have when you see these two essential figures who, in their advanced years, simply revel in the pleasure of playing and enchanting the Polish audience during this concert organised as part of Galliano's 50-year career celebration. Richard Galliano is now 70 years old, believe it or not, and everyone knows that he was the architect of the jazz accordion revival in France. Choosing Ron Carter as a partner, a musician ten years older than he is, was a good match for the purpose of indulging his passion for jazz. The double bassist has left an indelible mark on the history of his instrument, not least since his time in Miles Davis' second quintet between 1963 and 1968. This concert doesn't represent the first encounter between the two, and they offer delicate chamber jazz, like a declaration of love, a secular prayer in an amused complicity where everything sounds like it comes from the heart. As proof, Ron Carter delivers a long improvisation in a pure solo joy and the camera focuses on Galliano's attentive gaze as he attempts to pierce through the secrets of the double bassist's pathways. During the last notes of Piazzolla's Libertango, as Galliano launches into a dazzling solo, Ron Carter applauds. Samuel Thiebaut's modest and sober direction is also noteworthy, in total symbiosis with the artists' performance.
