Keyboardist, composer, and producer Joe Armon-Jones is a key figure in the London jazz scene, which branches out ever further into jazz, hip-hop, and dub, working with artists such as the Ezra Collective and Nubya Garcia. The latter also plays with his band here. They perform the songs 'Try Walk With Me' and 'Starting Today' live at North Sea Jazz 2022.
You may recognize Joe Armon-Jones' keyboard work from the Ezra Collective and Nubya Garcia, among others. His solo work is at least as impressive. He strikes a light touch on his albums that is simultaneously virtuosic and complex, challenging the listener. He studied the classical jazz work of Oscar Peterson, and in production, he is influenced by London's broken beats, as well as the experimental work of J Dilla and Herbie Hancock. Armon-Jones takes liberties wherever possible. Thanks to his extensive work in the London jazz scene, he is certainly no stranger to North Sea Jazz, but now we finally get to see him with his own project.
