Ballaké Sissoko is one of the most prominent figures on the Malian music scene. Heir to a lineage of griots, he taught himself the demanding art of the kora—this fascinating instrument somewhere between a lute and a harp. Over the years, his refined playing and keen ear have led him to collaborate with musicians from the worlds of jazz and classical music.
Piers Faccini, for his part, is a committed European: born to an Italian father, raised in England, and now living in France. This plurality of identities is reflected in his songs, which have folk, blues, and Mediterranean influences. He sings in English, French, or Italian dialects, creating music that is both introspective and outward-looking.
With the album Our Calling, released in early 2025, Ballaké Sissoko and Piers Faccini forge a common path between Europe and West Africa. A musical conversation full of grace.
