Jazz sous les Pommiers welcomes Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Chris Potter, Larry Grenadier, and Eric Harland, four heavyweights of North American jazz, brought together for the first time under the aegis of the First Meeting project.
It may seem crazy, but before forming this quartet, pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba, saxophonist Chris Potter, double bassist Larry Grenadier, and drummer Eric Harland had never played or recorded together. Now they've done so, and we delight in witnessing such virtuosity, complicity, and mutual understanding.
Each brings their own colors, their own language, and their own influences: Chris Potter impresses with the fluidity and speed of his playing, while Gonzalo Rubalcaba unleashes rich and striking improvisations, and Larry Grenadier contributes a clear and precise bass, solidly supported by the percussive energy of Eric Harland on drums.
This concert at Jazz sous les Pommiers has the feel of a masterclass! A masterclass dedicated to the multiple cultures of jazz that will seriously make you want to snap your fingers and tap your toes.
