Before Richard Galliano, the accordion was undoubtedly associated with the musette, the java, the circus circle, possibly fado, and other music related to popular arts and traditions: a highly esteemed instrument, but one that was hard to imagine penetrating the freedom and modernity of jazz. Yet, Richard Galliano did just that. Better still, in addition to the instrument's traditional repertoires, he adapted classical pieces by Bach and Vivaldi to jazz. This is how the composer, eclectic musician, and superb improviser made a name for himself in the world of jazz.

On the stage of Jazz sous les Pommiers, the accordionist invokes Astor Piazzolla! Flanked by Adrien Moignard on guitar and Philippe Aerts on double bass, Richard Galliano performs New York Tango Trio, an album dedicated to the brilliant Argentinian composer. Enough to get us moving to the rhythms of tango, French chanson, and even gypsy jazz!

Filmed on May 29, 2025, at the Jazz sous les Pommiers festival in Coutances.
