At the TSF Jazz Chantilly Festival, pianist Sullivan Fortner performs as a trio, accompanied by double bassist Tyrone Allen and drummer Kayvon Gordon. Together, they introduce us to Southern Nights, a musical ode to New Orleans.
At only 38 years old, Sullivan Fortner is already considered one of the most brilliant pianists of his generation. A two-time Grammy Award winner, praised by the great Fred Hersch, he collaborates with great voices of contemporary jazz such as Cécile McLorin Salvant, Samara Joy, and Kurt Elling.
However, it is as a leader that Fortner truly reveals himself: he becomes more than a dazzling technician but a true keyboard poet, a storyteller. He proves this once again with Southern Nights, an album of rare elegance, deeply rooted in the musical heritage of New Orleans, his hometown. Alongside Peter Washington and Marcus Gilmore, Fortner pays a vibrant tribute to the music he grew up with, ranging from swing, blues, lyrical ballads, and decidedly modern flourishes.
It is in a small corner of Louisiana that Sullivan Fortner and his acolytes transform the grounds of the Château de Chantilly. A concert that inspires "let the good times roll."
