Singer Angie Stone, known for her hit Wish I Didn’t Miss You, has died at the age of 63, March 1, 2025.

Stone has been a founding member of groundbreaking female hip-hop trio the Sequence in the late 70s at the age of 16. They scored a hit with Funk You Up, a song that was later sampled by Dr Dre for his single Keep Their Heads Ringin and Bruno Mars in Uptown Funk. (The Guardian, March 1, 2025)

We remember Angie by her great performance at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2000.
We already published her performance of 2002 and will also publish her most recent concert at North Sea Jazz 2008.
R.I.P Angie Stone

Angie Stone (born Angela Laverne Brown, Columbia (South Carolina), January 30, 1961, passed away, March 1, 2025) was a Grammy Award-nominated neo soul singer. She is also a songwriter and actress. Stone is now one of the best-known artists of neo soul, alongside Macy Gray and Erykah Badu, among others. Before her big break, she also played in a few different groups. With The Sequence she had a minor hit with Funk You Up. After this she tried again with the group Vertical Hold, which had a summer hit with the song Seems Your Much To Busy. Her big breakthrough came in 1999 with her solo album Black Diamond. Stone has collaborated with Prince, Lenny Kravitz, Mary J. Blige, Mantronix and D'Angelo, among others. She wrote a number of songs for D'Angelo, with whom she has son Michael and daughter Imani. She has now left her record label 'J Records'. Her next album was released in 2007 on the Stax Records label.
