Parisian of Syrian origin, Naïssam Jalal has never forgotten her roots. At the age of 19, she went to Damascus to be initiated into the nay, then to Egypt where she studied with the master violinist Abdu Dagher. On her return to France in 2006, she collaborated with numerous artists and experimented with multiple styles: from contemporary jazz to Afrobeat, including rap and tango.

Naïssam Jalal once again underlines her status as a traveling artist with Landscapes of Eternity. To give substance to this project, the musician traveled to Northern India to better immerse herself in its century-old musical traditions. Traveling across this immense territory by train, country bus or even rickshaw, Naïssam Jalal was nourished by meetings and collaborations with masters of this repertoire. Thus a new repertoire was born, a point of contact between the world of jazz and that of Hindustani music.

To better take Jazz sous les Pommiers on a journey, Naïssam Jalal is here surrounded by Asian and Western artists: Debasmita Bhattacharya (sarod), Leonardo Montana (piano), Flo Comment (tanpura), Anuja Borude (pakhawaj) and Zaza Desiderio (drums) . A unique combination of instruments which highlights all the melodic and harmonic inventiveness of the musician.

Filmed on May 8, 2024 at Jazz sous les Pommiers, Coutances.
