Imagine yourself on the coast of northern Denmark, with the wind and sea shaping a jazz melody. You have just imagined the sound of Svaneborg Kardyb.
When Nikolaj Svanebord and Jonas Kardyb first considered working together, they had no idea that ten years later they would receive the Composers Of the Year and New Talent Of The Year trophies at the 2019 Danish Jazz Music Awards .
The duo, composed of Svaneborg on keyboard and Kardyb on drums, has developed a unique style of instrumental music that is warm, sentimental and melodic. Originally from the northern tip of Jutland, Denmark, the two friends produce music that evokes the lush Danish nature. It’s no surprise, then, that 2020’s Haven album was intended as a paean to the spaces we revel in there. Listening to these evanescent tracks, you can imagine (and sometimes hear, literally) the sea breeze and the song of the birds.
