This concert was recorded in December 2010, when David Sanchez was preparing to record his album, Ninety Miles Project in Havana. David Sanchez is a jazz musician born in Puerto Rico in 1968. Mentored by Dizzy Gillespie and Kenny Barron, and later collaborating with Eddie Palmieri, Hilton Ruiz, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, he has always let his taste for Caribbean rhythms shine through. It was natural, therefore, for him to perform in Martinique in the Aimé Césaire concert hall. He expresses his attachment to his Caribbean roots without ostentation but with deep sincerity during the twenty-minute evolution of “Cultural Survival.” He sets aside his tenor saxophone to sit at some drums for a dialogue with drummer Henry Cole, another Puerto Rican musician. He also performs an old song from his native land with Caballo Viejo.
