Home in South Africa a national hero and on the stages of the world with grooving live performance on the go. Hugh Masekela swings through the decades of Afrobeat: brisk dance music, elegant blues, earthy soul and sparkling funk sometimes fused with Kwela and Mbaqanga traditions from his homeland. Unmistakable the sound of his flugelhorn and this warm, hoarse voice that tells stories from life. With 77 years of age, the exceptional musician looks back on an incomparable career. His name coincides with Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Hugh Masekela: "A life without music would be hell!"

Together with South Africa's freedom icons Miriam Makeba and Nelson Mandela, Hugh Masekela fought against apartheid with his music. For many years he had to live in exile. His song "Bring Him Back Home" became the anthem for Mandela's release from decades of imprisonment. To this day, political commitment and social criticism characterize Masekela's texts.

The current CD shows Hugh Masekela full of temperament and zest for action - who can still keep his feet still? At the same time, however, quiet blues pieces with rhythmic-melodic sounds enliven the listener. You just have to experience the jazz legend from South Africa!
