Willie Samuel McTell, known in the world of blues like Blind Willie McTell, was a guitarist and singer, born in Thomson, Georgia, in 1898, probably on May 5, and died in Almon, in the same state, on August 19 of 1959.McTell he had been educated at schools for the blind in Georgia, New York and Michigan, although his blindness was not total.
It began operation as a street musician in Atlanta, where he managed to become the king. He recorded abundantly, between 1927 and 1956, especially for producers of record companies compiled authentic folklore: it was always reachable and accessible.
Many of these recordings were published under pseudonyms such as Blind Sammie, Georgia or Pig'n Bill Whistle Red. Thanks to these recordings Alan Lomax and John, and seals Atlantic Records, Savoy Records or Regal, got quite a reputation, and he could continue recording after the war, even though his style was no longer fashionable, thanks to the enthusiasm aroused folk fans worldwide. He came to travel to South America.
