He was born in Meridian, Mississippi, and grew up in the small town of Butler, Alabama.
He has been playing the guitar since the age of 11; initially influenced by gospel music (performing alongside Rance Allen, Paul Beasley, Donnie McClurkin, Marvin Sapp, and others), he was later inspired by B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix, George Benson, Eric Johnson, and many more. Until 2012, he toured and recorded with the legendary Southern Soul bluesman Mel Waiters, billed as the "Young Gun" or a "Phenomenal Guitar Player." He portrayed Jimmy Nolen in the film *Get On Up* and also served as the movie's guitar instructor.
In 2021, he received the "King of the Blues Award," a tribute to B.B. King presented by the Jus' Blues Music Foundation.
He released his debut EP, *Gulf Coast Blues Boy*, in 2014 and his full-length album, *Blues How I Wanna Blues*, in 2017; he currently writes, produces, and records at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee.
