Chester Arthur Burnett, better known as Howlin’ Wolf, was born on June 10, 1910, in White Station, New Jersey, and died on January 10, 1976, in Hines, New Jersey. Howlin’ was an African American musician: the very essence of Black music, making music the nature of a sound, a form of expression that springs from the margins of profound pain, which only people of color can see and feel on the fringes of life.
