Otis Spann (March 21, 1930 - April 24, 1970) was a pianist and singer of American blues. It is considered the best pianist of Chicago blues after the war.
Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Spann transcended by its particular style when running the piano.
He began playing the piano at eight years of age, influenced by his neighbor Friday Ford. At age 14, he was playing in local bands (still in Jackson) and his style was already influenced more by singles Big Maceo that listened.
In 1946, he decided to move to Chicago to try her luck and establish his career as a professional musician. He remains playing with guitarist Morris Pejoe until, in 1952, guitarist Muddy Waters decides to invite him to join his band.
