The session Cousin Joe includes some of his best known compositions, such as "Beggin 'Woman" and "Is not So Such A Much" that have very intelligent and ironic lyrics. Cousin Joe was on the edge of jazz throughout much of his career and was a fixed artist in New Orleans since 1948. His lyrics in "I Would not Give a Blind Sow an Acorn" were often used by Dizzy Gillespie . Cousin Joe was a better pianist, but not as strong as a singer. He is in solid form during his performance which was filmed five years before his death.
