Charon Shemekia Copeland Born in 1979 in Harlem, New York, daughter of the legendary Texas gitarr Johnny Copeland, began to develop his professional career in his early teens, boasting a powerful voice very fit for soul and in the line of Koko Taylor And Etta James. Her father encouraged her from the age of 8 to sing, taking her to the Cotton Club during her performances and uploading her to the stage. When he was 16 years old he would open the recitals during the bluesman tours, and he had made a name for himself on the blues circuit.
He signed his contract with Alligator at the age of 19, and that year he released his debut album "Turn The Heath Up!" From then on he had more publicity and toured the US and Europe. Appears in a duet with one of her heroines, the early R & B diva Ruth Brown. The album earned her a fair amount of WC Handy nominations, and rose to three: song of the year, blues album of the year and contemporary female artist "Talking To Strangers" was produced by the legendary pianist Dr John, and to date has continued to spin and release albums for Alligator and Telarc.
Presentation on American TV in the ON CANVAS program.
