Malcolm spent his childhood in Weaverville, a small town in North Carolina. It has its first direct approach to music when his mother gave him a guitar and a book for arrangements bought at the supermarket. After the death of both parents leaves his country at a time of Nashville, Tennessee, where he works in a cafeteria.
The first album, A far cry from here, comes out in 1994, when the artist was thirty-nine. In 1996, he enters into a contract with Geffen Records and began working on their second album. However, the situation falls early and the artist falls into alcoholism. He manages to get out of it only after the return to North Carolina, where he began to self produced albums.
The real breakthrough came in 2007, when public Gamblin 'house which earned him the attention of major magazines and not, including Rolling Stone, driving him to the public light.
