An entertaining and often moving tale of one of British music’s great lost treasures. Formed in 1974 by a group of schoolmates from Croydon, Johnny Moped was the band led by—and named after—the enigmatic Paul Halford, alias Johnny Moped. In 1977, the group found itself at the heart of London’s burgeoning punk scene and, for a brief moment, even seemed like serious contenders. Despite counting both Chrissie Hynde and Captain Sensible among their former members, success eluded them; Johnny Moped are now largely forgotten—punk rock’s great lost band. Yet theirs is a fascinating story that, along with some of the era’s most innovative music, deserves to be heard.
