A sequel to 1964's The T.A.M.I. Show, The Big T.N.T Show was shot before a live audience at the Moulin Rouge club in Los Angeles on November 29, 1965. With Phil Spector serving as musical director, the concert showcased rock, soul, country, pop and folk artists on one bill, surrounded by an audience of screaming girls. The host, David McCallum from "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.," received a frenzied, Beatles-style reception when he arrived on stage. Spector himself provides the piano backing as Joan Baez belts out "You've Lost That Loving Feeling," and among the standout groups are the Ronettes, fronted by his wife Ronnie. Acts such as Donovan and Petula Clark may fail the test of time, but Bo Diddley's dirty R & B leaves scarcely a dry seat in the house, and the electrifying set by Ike and Tina Turner is widely regarded as their finest filmed performance. In a mellower vein, Ray Charles contributes stellar moments of his own.
