Musicians, storytellers, lighting, diva, visionary - Bob Dylan is all that in one person and much more. Now six high-caliber stars - including Richard Gere, Heath Ledger, Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett even a woman - take on the role of the eccentric star and portray him in the different stages and stations of his moving life.
Bob Dylan, an iridescent icon of folk, rock and pop, appears six times in "I'm Not There". As an 11-year-old singer-songwriter he travels through the country like the black blues legends at the end of the 1950s. At 19, he is a sharp-witted poet, a little later a successful folk-troubadour in the vibrant Greenwich Village of the early 60s. Hardly celebrated as the voice of a new generation, he reinvented himself as a bandleader and thrusts his fans with an electrified skirt in front of his head. He succeeds as an actor, failed as a family father, falls into oblivion as a Christian preacher - and emerges again in the hinterland of Missouri: as a grown-up outlaw, who is once again on the journey.
In an equally unusual and innovative way, director Todd Haynes approaches the mystery behind the myth Bob Dylan. Combined with the virtuosic qualities of a sensational all-star ensemble, "I'm Not There" achieves an intense intensity that fully meets the unique significance of this outstanding artist. A cinema highlight that will not only inspire Dylan fans!
