An exceptional pianist, a musical polygon that unites the continents, Omar Sosa, between utopia and reality, is an allegory of universal artistic exchange. Omar Sosa perfectly embodies the spirit of Duke Ellington as the creator of a music that transcends the categories, as evidenced by the approximately 20 albums as leader: he is a planetary musician who best falls into world music in its wider classification. His curiosity, generous musical spirit, dedication to the group as a fundamental element of creation, and an opening to new sounds and unusual combinations animate everything Omar does. His quest for music liberty transcends orthodoxy and impersonates Monk's determination in not wanting to ever play the same thing twice. Sosa realizes a global but exhaustive, stylistically unique jazz language that celebrates the diversity of America's music souls and beyond. Yet Omar always cultivated an intimate connection with his Afro-Cuban roots. "Africa and Diaspora are a musical source without equal," says the artist. "I tried to tell the melodic profile of the continent, and its great rhythmic strength. The rhythm connects every person with the Supreme Spirit; and every land has its own way of calling the Spirit, of joining people. Philosophically, through jazz that is perhaps the most representative kind of Diaspora, we have tried to put together the Caribbean, Latin America and Africa in an expression of freedom, a celebration of the diaspora that still survives today.
