Otis Mark Taylor was born in Chicago in 1948 moving very young to Denver where he cultivated his devotion to music. He spent time at the Denver Folklore Center where he bought his first instrument, a banjo. It was at the Folklore Center dondeescuchó for the first time "Mississippi John Hurt" and the country blues. Learned to play guitar and harmonica, in his teens, he formed his first band "Butterscotch Fire Department Blues Band" and later the "Otis Taylor Blues Band".
