"He could play anything that had strings." This is how Quint Davis, director of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, defined Snooks Eaglin, who died on February 18 in this city, from which he never left. He suffered a heart attack and had been battling prostate cancer for a year.
Fird Eaglin Jr. was born in New Orleans on January 21, 1936, and as a child, he was blinded by glaucoma and the first thing he played was a rubber-stringed ukulele given to him. Attached to the radio, he later switched to the guitar, which he learned to play by ear. He precisely took his stage name, Snooks, in homage to a radio character named Baby Snooks.

Recorded At Storyville Jazz Hall October 23, 1985, New Orleans, Louisiana
