Otis Rush hit the Top 10 of the charts in 1956 with the appearance of "I Can't Quit You Baby," his first single, establishing himself as one of Chicago's leading blues guitarists. Rush is also credited with being one of the architects of the Westside style, along with Magic Sam and Buddy Guy, although he was playing clubs on Chicago's South Side during that movement's incubation period. Still, his status as one of the Windy City's early blues innovators will be forever secured thanks to his vibrato-heavy guitar work and intense vocals, which have become a hallmark of the Windy City. of fabric.

If only talent were the formula for success, Otis Rush would be the leader of the blues in Chicago, but fate, luck and the idiosyncrasy of the artist have conspired against this objective on many occasions, when opportunities practically begged to be accepted. Otis Rush arrived in Chicago in 1948 and just by meeting Muddy Waters he realized what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. Willie Dixon sponsored him and in 1956 led him to sign with Cobra Records, a label for which he recorded "I Ca n't Quit You Baby", a song that reached number six on the Billboard Rhythm and Blues charts.
