James Blood Ulmer (St. Matthews, South Carolina, February 2, 1942) is an American jazz guitarist, flutist, singer and composer. and Blues.
From a family originally from the Sea Islands, the musical tradition of these was present in his training since he was a child. At the age of thirteen he is already performing with a gospel group, although for a time he moves away from music to dedicate himself to sports. It will be in 1959 when he began a professional musical career, playing with rock groups from Pittsburgh, where his family had moved.
