Eric Patrick Clapton, CBE (Ripley, Surrey, England, March 30, 1945) is a British rock and blues guitarist, singer and songwriter, known for his masterful skill with the electric guitar, specifically with his Stratocaster. He is known by the nickname of Slowhand ("Slow hand"), from his time in The Yardbirds and with that of God ("God") from his time with Cream. Clapton is a member of the Rock Hall of Fame three times: as a member of The Yardbirds and Cream and for his solo career. In the opinion of many critics, Clapton has been one of the most respected and influential artists of mass culture of all time.
He is listed at number 2 on Rolling Stone magazine's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" list and number 55 on their "Immortals: The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time" special. In addition, in 2005 Guitar World magazine included five of his songs among the best guitar solos of all time.
