Mervyn 'Harmonica' Hinds is one of Chicago's best kept secrets. His harmonica style is rustic and reminiscent of the sound of the deepest Mississippi. The notes are blown in the family, and without individualizations, the sound of the train is present in each breath and transduction of its harmonica.
Hinds is not a harmonica virtuoso-well, that has never mattered-but his crude way of blowing the Mississippi saxophone falls like a ring on what he seeks to address in the fertile terrain of the Blues.
Harmonica Hinds plays regularly at Legends Buddy Guy 's in Chicago. He acts as soloist with guitar, harmonica and tambourine. Sometimes he is accompanied by another guitarist and sometimes a great band, but usually he is seconded by two guitarists.
