History, emotions and political commitment of Inti-Illimani, flagship band of Nueva Canción Chilena. Through the testimony of the various components we know their origins, the Italian exile (1973-1988) following the coup of Augusto Pinochet, the glorious return to his homeland, the internal strife and the start of two different and parallel formations, always in the name of an identity that is able to cross several generations hearts with messages of hope and civic solidarity.
The two directors Cordio and Francesco Paolo Pagnoncelli approach with affection and as much power to a monument of engagé music trying to give back the artistic value beyond the symbol, the rhetoric and classifications more immediate. The traces of an inspiration strongly linked to the homeland and to the Andean rhythms and love for a people which Inti have never really strayed emerge unobtrusively in a story that proceeds by accumulation without having a clear operational plan. The evolution of their musical journey has the better sull'aneddoto and the private individual musicians, the precise notation political and historical fact: fortunately it's a movie about a present from which emerges here and there a pregnant memories past and of struggle, passion and suffering that a sanctification in life as all too often happens with similar productions.
Devoid of period films, there are only a few old photographs of the group with the typical poncho wearing, Inti-Illimani - Where to sing the clouds is a documentary that eludes many and annoying traps of the genre, although in the long run also lose the opportunity to have its own aspect to the legitimate desire to meet not only the tastes of the fans. The fascinating history of the Chilean band that at one time sold as Pink Floyd - reminds one of the Coulon brothers - meets the Italian songwriter Daniele Silvestri, their fans since childhood, in a beautiful sequence around a bonfire on the beach. Limit not just for a music documentary is not always good quality footage of live performances. The most beautiful and meaningful sentence is Jorge Coulon: "When you go back home something in the soul falls into place." Produced by World Video Production and exhibited in theaters by Independent Distribution.
