The band was originally formed in Ventura, California, in 1989 by the leader of Scotty Morris. The band was named Big Bad Voodoo Daddy after Scotty Morris met with the legendary blues guitarist Albert Collins at one of the concerts of the latter. "He signed my poster 'Scotty, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy'"
