This is an amazing meeting between two keystones of jazz. On the one hand, Kenny Barron, American pianist, lyrical fingers and impeccable technique, and on the other, Dave Holland, a wizard on the double bass with a deep, moving sound. The first is a bebop star, who began his career in the 1960s alongside Roy Haynes and Dizzy Gillespie, before going on to collaborate with Chet Baker, Ornette Coleman and Yusef Lateef, becoming one of the most respected pianists.
The second is a major figure in avant-garde jazz. He’s worked with Miles Davis – notably on the masterpieces Bitches Brew and In a Silent Way – Stan Getz, Thelonious Monk and Chick Corea, throughout an impressive career spanning almost 50 years. Although their paths crossed in New York in the 1970s, generating mutual admiration, it was 1985 before they recorded together the album Scratch along with Daniel Humair. The Art of Conversation, which came out in 2014, is the first time these virtuosos have recorded together as a duo. Kenny Barron and Dave Holland playing together in the Club promises to be an exceptional concert.
