In 1940, McGhee went to New York with Sonny Terry. From now on, the musical careers of Terry and McGhee are united, in the duo "Sonny & Brownie", one of the most stable and successful formations of the blues history, making a great number of recordings. When, in the 1960s, his rural blues began to lose the favor of the black audience, Sonny & Brownie were welcomed by the public folk and the European public. In the early 1980s, Terry and McGhee separated, after a period of growing disaffection. McGhee settled in Los Angeles, where he continued to play sporadically until his death.

SONNY TERRY

Saunders Tedell, was a harpsichordist and blues singer, born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on October 24, 1911, and died in New York on March 12, 1986.
He was accidentally blinded at the age of 14 and blinded by a blow during a fight several years later.

BROWNIE MC GHEE

Walter McGhee, was a guitarist and blues singer, born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on November 30, 1915, and died in Oakland, California, on February 16, 1996.
McGhee, a paralytic of the right leg, learned to play his father's guitar, which taught him the typical appalachic style of fingerpicking.
