Joseph Lee Williams, known as Poor Joe or Big Joe Williams, was an American blues singer and guitarist, born in Crawford, Mississippi, on October 16, 1903, and died in Macon, Mississippi, on September 17, 1982. He had A dramatic childhood, victim of permanent mistreatment on the part of his stepfather, reason why fled of house with only 9 years and was enrolled in a Medecine show. At this time, he met musicians like Charlie Patton, who would be his biggest influence, and who named him Poor Joe. He spent some time in Saint Louis and then in Texas, where he met Leadbelly. He eventually immigrated to Chicago, where he joined Sonny Boy Williamson I to power the city's new blues style.
