The first ever performance by Paul Butterfield in Europe, recorded by WDR on 15/09/1978 at the Grugahalle in Essen. Butterfield was one of Chicago's first Blues exponents and working with sacred monsters such as Muddy Waters, Howlin 'Wolf, Little Walter and Junior Wells, conferred a unique style on how to play the harmonica. With his Blues Band founded in 1965, he also played at Woodstock: his guitarist was then Buzzy Feiten, who is also in the Rockpalast concert. For this show Paul Butterfield performed with a young band (the second guitarist Peter Atanasoff was just nineteen years old) but of extraordinary effectiveness, becoming mentor of a whole new generation of blues musicians.
